'Exploration, examination and evaluation - a people's view of Osterley'
A Brief for LogicaCMG Delegates at Osterley Park and House
Introduction
The National Trust has been working with Strategis to develop experiential learning options into bespoke training programmes for corporate clients. This relationship has proved to be very successful in terms of mutual benefit to clients and host. By taking real life operational needs from a multifaceted voluntary sector organisation delegates are involved in a range of diverse, challenging and rewarding projects that provide a unique learning journey whilst being beneficial to both the local community and the National Trust.
Context
This particular event will be set at Osterley Park and House a magnificent neo-classical structure with fine Adam interiors, landscaped park and 18th century gardens. An integral part of the vision for the property and park is to become more accessible and engaging to the local community in Hounslow. Current statistics show that 350,000 people visit Osterley Park each year but only c. 30,000 of these will visit the House and Garden. There is a perception that the average visitor is aged 60+ and of white ethnicity whereas the profile of the local community is 35% black and minority ethnic people, with a significant population from South Asia. Osterley Park and House would like to increase its visitor numbers, and at the same time diversify its visitor profile. Their belief is that by developing a more accessible experience to those that do not come will improve the offer to all visitors.
The Project
In order to encourage and promote the benefits of a visit to Osterley Park and House to the local community the project needs to gather and analyse data to deliver the following objectives:
- Using the questionnaire provided by your client gather the following information: an in depth knowledge of the property and what it offers for the visitors, any reasons visitor have for not wanting to visit, what might enable or encourage a visit and how else do local people spend their leisure time.
- Interview approx 200+ people who already use Osterley Park but do not, or have not recently visited Osterley Park House and Garden.
- Analyse the data gathered in the fieldwork and present a paper, with quantitative and qualitative results to the Osterley Park management team.
- Deliver an on-site end of presentation to LogicaCMG, Strategis and National Trust Management.
