'Sowing the Seed for a Greener Tomorrow'
A Brief for LogicaCMG Delegates at Morden Hall Park NT Property
Introduction
The National Trust has been working with Strategis to develop experiential learning options into bespoke training programmes for corporate clients. This relationship has proved to be very successful in terms of mutual benefit to clients and host. By taking real life operational needs from a multifaceted voluntary sector organisation delegates are involved in a range of diverse, challenging and rewarding projects that provide a unique learning journey whilst being beneficial to both the local community and The National Trust.
Context
A primary aim across the National Trust is to engender a feeling amongst the local community stakeholder groups that local Trust properties are a resource for them and in doing so we aim to develop a pro-active approach to community involvement. This aim goes back to the roots of the National Trust when it was set up as a philanthropic organisation to help provide a remedy to increasing industrialisation, by providing what was known as a Green Lung to underprivileged individuals. Nowadays the National Trust talk about increasing access to their properties and indeed their mission statement is "Forever, for everyone".
The Project
In order to work towards the National Trusts aims of Community, Learning and life long learning, Morden Hall Park is looking to rejuvenate 6 acres of land leased to Merton Council for the use of allotments. There are at present 6 active plots whilst the remaining area is in need of inspiration and cultivation.
Morden Hall is looking to establish links with the community and encourage diversity.
- Work with the community, local Government charities and media to identify needs and requirements.
- Scope out possible sponsorship from local organisations.
- Research the implementation of an irrigation system using the natural source of water flow available on the Park.
- Prepare a short presentation of working with the community to encourage diversity and change to be used in conjunction with a lottery bid for funding to be delivered to senior National Trust, LogicaCMG and Strategis staff.
